Snow flurries are rare in the southern US; now a snow storm has arrived

A rare winter storm is bringing snow and freezing rain to parts of the Deep South, closing roads and airports and prompting the first blizzard warning in southwest Louisiana.

The video shows nuns and a priest enjoying a snowball fight in Matairie, Louisiana, while a skier is dragged down a street in Charleston, South Carolina.

Four people are believed to have died from exposure to the cold so far: authorities in Austin, Texas, are investigating two cases as cold-related, while two deaths from hypothermia were reported in Georgia and Milwaukee.

The extreme weather is part of an extremely cold air mass that has descended over the southern and eastern United States.
