They’re like, ‘Man, my God, can I take a picture? i love you I miss you on TV. Right?” he recalled. “And that’s how I think the public loves him. The public misses him, but they’re just afraid… it’s the people inside the business.”

He added: “Maybe there is a way to come back, but I think it’s more people who are inside the business who are interested in what happened with Matt.”

Lemon said he believes if it had been up to the public rather than the networks and executives, Lauer would have had a chance to return to the public eye.

“I think the public… I’ll put it this way. I think the general public would accept – just me – I would accept Matt back. And I think people would watch it and I think the ratings would be great.”

It is not the first time that there have been proposals to return to the industry. He whispers about comeback for Lauer intensified in April 2024 when the source said so My Weekly only that the host was “planning a comeback” years after being fired from NBC amid sexual misconduct allegations.
