No one leaves her mark on a reality show quite like Parvati shallowand this year he is using his talent Deal or Deal Island.
“It was fun to watch,” Parvati, 42, said. My Weekly during an exclusive interview in our NYC studio about why she joined Season 2 of the NBC show after her colleague Survivors superstar Boston Rob appeared in season 1. “I love watching Rob play. It was so much fun. And then Joe Manganiello is the host. He is perfect for the role. It’s on an exotic private island. It has little Charlie’s Angelsa little Austin Powersa little Survivorsa little game of intrigue. I was like, ‘I have to play this game.'”
After a stint on Traitors last year, Parvati hinted that she hung up reality tv hat.
“I retired twice because I did that. Deal or No Deal Island and i did it Australian Survivor Vs. world in one summer, back to back,” she said Our about her previous remarks. “There’s something about these reality competition games that gets in my blood – their ultimate, life-changing experiences, and who gets the chance to play them more than once? It’s like a blessing and a curse.”
On Deal or No Deal Island — which follows contestants competing in physical challenges to win briefcases of monetary value before taking on the “Banker’s Challenge,” or Deal or No Deal game — Parvati is dealing with mostly people who have never been on a competition show before.
“They don’t have any reality TV backgrounds, but they have huge personalities that I’m used to when I play these games,” the five-time Survivors said the competitor. “But when it comes to gameplay and strategy, people who have never played a competition in reality don’t understand. It’s real when you’re in the moment. And these people can really dive into the drama and the emotionality and everything. So it kind of makes it easier for them to maneuver because you know how their emotions are going to drive them and they won’t be able to stop it. So for me, I can sit (and be) like a lifeguard, stand over them and watch the kids play in the pool and just make sure they’re safe and then pull them out as they need to. And then let them swim together.’
While she added that she “can’t really make a plan until I know what I’m working with,” she’s not worried about figuring out her next move once the game starts. “I’ve improved that ability to just kind of wait, be patient, sit in the unknown, not stress too much about what’s coming,” she said. Our. “And when it comes, it’s like a big improvisational experience.”
Deal or No Deal Island airs on NBC Tuesdays at 9:00 PM ET and will begin streaming on Peacock the following day. Read on for the biggest takeaways from Partavi about Season 2 so far:
About Dr. To Will:
During the second episode of the season, Big brother star Will Kirby — aka Dr. Will — joins the cast, much to Parvati’s dismay.
“I really don’t know much about Dr. Will. I only know what I saw of him Traitors when he hosted the haunted cabin challenge. So I’m like, ‘Oh, he’s a strange man.’ And I also know that there is a Big brother legend. That’s all I knew about him,” she said Our. “And I was like, ‘Okay, he’s the next big threat coming into the game, so we can play together.’ But then when he showed up in a tuxedo and then spouted off all these stats about me, I was like, ‘He’s a stalker who makes weird fashion choices. This (isn’t) my guy.’ And then it got worse.”
Fans saw that Dr. Will blows up Parvati’s plans to openly discuss her Survivors past in the show’s group settings.
“It’s the classic dynamic of a pathological narcissist and someone who, you know, has really learned how to get around these types of people and how to set boundaries and let them know, like, ‘Your game that you’re playing “It’s not working for me, so it has to quit,” she continued. “There’s bound to be a power struggle between me and Will. He’ll double down and dig his heels in, and so will I.”
When asked if they overlap Survivors and Big brother Fandoms could be torn on who to root for, Parvati said: “Will wasn’t there Big brother in 20 years, so I feel like I had fan bias. I hope that the fans will support and support me a little more warmly. I will need it because he (is) crazy! I can be crazy too, but like… he’s really crazy like he is.”
For Sydney:
Parvati called Sydney — who was eliminated in the second episode — “hot porridge express”.
“She was having a good time,” Parvati said of how quickly the contestant imploded. “And I think Sydney thought she was really running the show. I found the level of it quite deceptive. It was like what was reality and what was inside Sydney’s mind of reality didn’t match. When I saw her at the airport, she had The art of seduction — that book in her bag. And I was like, ‘I got your number, girl.’ I read that book. So I thought she was going to come up with some moves, and then when I saw her operate, I was like, ‘Oh, she needs to keep reading.'”
To David:
Parvati cooperates David Genátknown as the golden god Survivor Australia.
“No one knows who David is. Will doesn’t know who David is. I’m the only person who knows who David is,” she explained. “Will is trying to figure him out. Will would like to stop me in my tracks and say, “I think David is Boston Rob Survivor Australia.’ And I was like, ‘Will, you’re crazy. why do you think that He soaks up the challenges, he’s kind of stupid.” I kept playing it and Will was like, ‘Oh.’ But Will and David, there will also be a power struggle with those two. I think David respects Will’s style because David is an artist—and Survivors competitor-slash-performer. He knows how to ham it up, be the villain and play to what the audience wants to see. Will takes it to the extreme. So Dave says, ‘God, he’s like a method actor.’ And I was like, ‘No, it’s not. He’s just crazy!'”
On Dickson:
Dickson she referred to Parvati as “mom” on the show, but she won’t be afraid to betray him if she has to.
“I’ll be Dickson’s mom. There’s something about him. When we were sitting on that swing and he was telling us the story about how his parents basically gave him up for adoption when he was three months old and he grew up with this older white couple as his mom and dad, I’m like, “Oh, okay, I’ll be your mom.” Take you under my wing,” she said. “But I know he’s got ice in his veins because the things he said when Luke was going home in the first episode!” Luke he loved Dickson. Luke would give Dickson his jewelry, such as his watch. “Protect Dickson at all costs,” he told me. And I’m like, ‘Are you sure?’ Because Dickson said, ‘I don’t want the watch,’ he threw it into his bag. He doesn’t feel the same kind of warmth for other people as they do for him. People were very protective of him. But I knew it was a strategic alliance. If he has to go, he has to go.”
About living conditions:
After several seasons SurvivorsParvati has nothing but praise for her time on Unreleased Deal or No Deal Island file.
“Girl, put me on an island any day of my life. I love an exotic, beautiful beach. Deal or No Deal Island was an amazing experience that I would have paid for,” she said. “I mean, minus how I sleep next door. Rock who snored, or Dickson, who was constantly hacking and coughing in his sleep, sometimes talking in his sleep. I was like, ‘Oh, I could do without those guys.’ But the glam experience was so nice. And then the pavilion, that they had us in the dock, hammocks, a swing – I liked it there. A castle in Scotland is nice, but it’s cold – and probably haunted by the ghosts of the first murdered.’
“Everyone was really happy to be there, but the bugs scared the people and the snakes,” she continued. “There were a lot of snakes, (but) I don’t mind snakes. Some people really do – wrap me in a Cobra.”
About the challenges:
“The challenges are really intense and complex,” she said. “And the challenges change every time, so it’s not the same. You can’t rely on, “Oh, two people are going to be safe, everyone else is down.” They changed it. It’s really dynamic. It’s really runny. So when I mentally prepared myself for the challenges (every day) of the camp, I (didn’t) know what to expect. I need to be in the most grounded, confident, peaceful, calm, open-eyed and present state to be able to absorb all the information that is happening at lightning speed and then win these challenges. So it just required a different level of operation for me because it’s so non-linear.”
At the temple:
Parvati said Our that after the challenge you have 20-30 minutes to shower, do your hair, put on your makeup, get dressed – and strategize for Temple where they are playing Deal or No Deal.
“(This is the time) to convince these new reality contestants who have never done reality to do what you want them to do,” she said. “And they’re all running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Then I started thinking about the Temple as a tribal council, like, this is my forum. If I wanted to influence someone and I don’t have a lot of power myself who goes to play, I could say something and maybe make people’s heads (or wheels) spin in their heads.
Parvati noted that “the strategy is so layered” in “such a different way than any game I’ve ever played” because contestants can only control so much when they’re actually playing Deal or No Deal. “Unless you have psychic pages, which someone in this cast might have,” she teased Our.
