Snap announced On Thursday, it’s launching a new “Challenge Tags” rewards program for AR developers to win cash prizes for submitting Lenses. The company also announced that it is introducing tuition rates and a student discount Glassesits developer-oriented AR glasses.
The theme of the first Challenge Tag is humor and is open until January 31st. The first-place Lens developer will receive $2,500, while second and third place will receive $1,500 and $1,000, respectively. Twenty honorees will receive $250.
To participate, developers must register for each challenge, create a Lens in Snap’s Lens Studio, and apply the Challenge Tag in the publishing process to be reviewed. Snap will announce new challenges every month.
Lenses submitted for the award will be judged on originality, technical excellence and focus on subject matter. AR developers from over 100 countries around the world can participate thanks to a new partnership with Snap’s AR marketing platform. Lens list.
As for the new educational pricing and student discount for the glasses, students, faculty and staff at colleges and universities will be able to get a pair for a monthly subscription fee of $49.50 or €55. The standard subscription is $99 per month.
Education pricing and student discounts are available in all countries where Glasses are available, including the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria and the Netherlands. Any student or teacher enrolled or working at an accredited educational institution in these markets is eligible.
Snap is largely considered a leader in AR and is the company that popularized the use of AR filters and lenses through its platform. Since Snap was an early adopter of AR, the company has continued to invest in the space over the years.
With these new changes, Snap signals its continued commitment to building and developing AR.
