In the months and years following this sale, open source and decentralized applications such as Mastodon Bluesky (uses newer ones in the protocol), have continued to grow their user bases as people seek alternatives to centralized social media apps run by billionaires like Musk and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg.

Seeing the writing on the wall, Meta realized that it was necessary to plant a flag in FEDISH. This led to the release of its X competitor in 2023 Instagram threadswhich is in this period to integrate With ActionPub.

Now, Daniel Supernala, the Canadian-based developer behind Meta’s Social Media Empire-challenging Federated apps, is seeking funding for the continued development and support of his open social community.

SupernAult wants its suite of apps to be the first to reach a network of one billion people, but of course it has a long way to go before reaching that lofty goal. This is the first time SuperAult has turned to Kickstarter to help these efforts, which the Pixelfed Foundation also aims to benefit. (A stretch goal Kickstarter campaign The Pixelfed Foundation is not for profit and is growing its team beyond volunteers.)

If successful, the campaign will also fund a blogging app as an alternative to Tumblr or LiveJournal at some point in the future.

The funds will also help the applications manage the flow of new users. Yan Pixelfed.Socialthe main pixelfed instance, (like mastodon anyone can run a pixelfed server), already has more than 200,000 users to launch the mobile app, according to campaign details shared with TechCrunch. The server is now, according to network statistics, the second largest on mastodon.social, behind only mastodon To scold.

The new funds will help expand the storage, CDN and compute power needed for the growing user base and accelerate development. In addition, Superahaula will help apps as a whole and FETERSSE to spend more time while expanding the moderation, safety, privacy and security programs that social apps need.

As part of its efforts, SupernAult also wants to introduce E2E encryption to FEDIVERSE.
