“Look, he’s behind him,” one broadcaster shared moments before expressing his shock at the incident. “Oh yeah. Ohhh.”
Richard immediately went down on the ice and began clutching his face before help arrived.
Despite the terrifying moment, which was caught on tape, Richard does not appear to have been seriously interrupted or injured in the game. He was able to get up and skate back to the bench by himself.
As for Miller, 25, he showed good sportsmanship by skating to Richard to make sure he was OK. Also supposedly he apologized for the accident.
The incident came as Richard played his eighth game with the Flyers this season. After suffering a leg injury on December 10, 2024, the hockey player was forced to miss 13 games to recover.
During the recovery process, Richard always hoped to be able to return to the ice.
“I’ve been waiting for that call for a couple of months,” he told the Philadelphia Flyers reporters on Thursday. “The way I played, I was excited to get another chance.
Richard promised before the game that he was going to “play ass” and “make sure they remember me as the last time I was injured and played well.”
“I’ll try to play my game and have a good first period again and get back to where I was,” he added. “I’m glad he’s behind me and my body feels pretty good.
Coach John Tortorella also expressed confidence in Richard prior to the game at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“He’s fast,” Tortorella, 66, shared Flying fish hockey. “We lost (Ryan Poehling) and I can see right away with our team, when you lose that type of acceleration in the middle, it affects your group. “
Although the Rangers beat the Flyers 6-1, the Philadelphia team will be back on their skates on Friday, January 24, and Richard is expected to play again after recovering from a serious injury.
