Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announced Friday that his office filed a lawsuit against the department of the St. Joseph County Sheriff for illegal immigration.
“I filed a lawsuit against the St. Joseph County Sheriff (William) Redman and his department for his persistent practice of refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities,” Rokita told journalists at the press conference in the press conference in Bles del Sur, Indiana.
He continued: “This includes refusing to properly notify ICE about the release of illegal foreigners and also refuse to respect ICE detention orders. This deliberate decision not to cooperate with federal immigration authorities is giving a safe port to criminal foreigners that need to be expelled from our country.
ICE detainees refer to people who ask the local authorities to retain until an agent can take their custody.
He said that Sheriff’s actions would cause more illegal immigrants in the country to come to St. Joseph county and commit crimes.
“As its attorney general, I refuse to become impassive and observe how anarchy happens by the officials responsible for enforcing the law,” he added.
Rokita said that the Sheriff’s department continues to comply with Indiana’s law after multiple attempts to communicate with the sheriff.
He pointed out that despite the lawsuit, Indiana will continue to support the application of the law, “but we will also hold those who deserve to be accounts.”
“My office will not stop work here on this issue until the law is fulfilled and let our people first about illegal foreigners,” he said.
Rokita said his office “would gladly terminate the demand” if the Sheriff’s department begins to cooperate.
He added that his office is also investigating possible labor monitoring networks in the state in the middle of resident reports on an influx of immigrants to communities.
Fox News Digital communicated with Redman and the department of the Sheriff of St. Joseph to request comments.
