George Kambosos JR will headline on March 22 against an opponent still detained in Sydney, Australia. This will be the first fight with Eddie Hearn’s arcade boxing for former unified lightweight champion Kambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs). Skye Nicolson will be on the card.
Hearn has not revealed his plans for Kambosos. He had wanted to schedule a clash between Kambosos and former IBF welterweight champion Liam Paro in Australia, but after Paro’s loss against Richardson Hitchins last December, which ruined his plans.
Hearn also promotes Hitchins, but a fight between him and Kambosos wouldn’t be big. It’s not the best use of Kambosos to feed him to Hitchins and watch him get defeated. Hearn will likely focus on a bigger fight for Kambosos Jr. against someone like Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney or Ryan Garcia.
Kambosos could have lost every fight in the last four years since his upset victory over Teofimo López on November 27, 2021. He had a questionable victory against Maxi Hughes on July 22, 2023. Many boxing fans saw it as a loss for Kambosos, like Hughes, dominated the entire fight.
Kambosos’ last four fights
– Vasily Lomachenko – TKO 11 Loss
– Maxi Hughes – MD 12 Win: *questionable
– Devin Haney – UD 12 Loss
– Devin Haney – UD 12 Loss
“I think Hitchins is a good fighter. I think he needs me, but I want him because I see holes,” George Kambosos Jr. told the Stomp When asked why he wants to fight IBF Light Welterweight Champion Richardson Hitchins so much.
“I think about 140 with what I can bring to the table with his basic style. It’s very basic. It’s good at the basics. He’s got a good jab, left hand, good right hand, but at 140, I think I can overwhelm him,” Kambosos continued about Hitchins.
“(Liam) Paro did a really good job in the early rounds, but he got away from it. I think Paro was stuck with another possible mega fight with my name attached too. I see things in that fight. I love New York. It’s a good ground for me, and I love it, but it’s obviously not the favourite. I’m the underdog.”
Kambosos doesn’t stand a chance against Hitchins or any other top 10 fighter at 140. He’s a one-punch wonder who lucked out with a narrow 12-round split decision win over Teofimo Lopez. The little one ‘Emperor’ Kambosos’ career has sunk since then
Hitchins needs Kambosos for a payday and more attention in his career. However, in terms of opposition, Kambosos is a big step back for Richardson. It’s not in the same league as Hitchins’ recent fights against Liam Paro, Gustavo Lemos, José Zepeda or John Bauza.
“I think I’m another Loudmouth New Yorker. I feel like everything has arrived. I’m back with the match room. I’m back with Eddie Hearn. I love the match room. I love Eddie Hearn’s manner and vision. I feel comfortable. I’ve been with Lou since 2016. I love Lou… I feel like there’s a good direction and path to being champion again. I see it,” Kambosos said.
After 8 years I can finally show my debut 140 in my hometown Sydney, huge card, March 22nd! Full details next week. Important fight to establish more championship gold 🏆🇦🇺 https://t.co/ssyje3vwa3
