In the last hours of his mandate, President Joe Biden negotiated an exchange of prisoners with the Taliban who freed American citizens Ryan Corbett and William Wallace McKenty of the custody of the Taliban.
However, American citizens were not included in the agreement. George Glezmann and Mahmood Habibi.
On Saturday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio published in X that “he was just founding” the arrests of more Americans by the Taliban.
“If this is true, we will have to immediately offer a very big reward to its main leaders, perhaps even greater than what we had for Bin Laden.” Rubio wrote.

Dennis Fitzpatrick, who is coordinating efforts outside the United States government for the release of Glezmann, said that Glezmann “was never a serious priority for the White House of Biden.”
“President Biden And (former National Security Advisor) Jake Sullivan decided to leave George Glezmann in Kabul without a good reason, “Fitzpatrick told Fox News Digital.” We trust that President Trump’s lucid leadership will ensure George’s release for his family. ” .
Fitzpatrick added that Glezmann, 66, is “a totally innocent man” who was “a very hard -working airline mechanic before being unjustly detained. He does not deserve to be used as a pawn.”
Glezmann has been arrested since December 5, 2022, when he was traveling to Afghanistan to “explore the cultural landscape and the rich history of the country,” according to a resolution of the July 2024 Senate that requested his immediate release.
The resolution establishes that Glezmann’s physical and mental condition was deteriorating as a result of his arrest in a nine -square -feet underground cell. He has only allowed calls limited to his family and has suffered “facial tumors, hypertension, serious malnutrition and other medical conditions” as a result of his detention.
While the Taliban admit that they keep Glezmann detained, they insist that they do not retain Mahmood Habibi.
Habibi’s brother, Ahmad, told Fox News Digital that the family “knows that my brother is still in custody of the Taliban. I cannot share much about that because we do not want to put him or others at risk. But anyone who Accept the hollow suggestions of the Taliban that they do not have it are falling into their lies.
“We have multiple witnesses of his arrest for the (General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI)). We have multiple witnesses who were retained with him at the headquarters of the GDI. The Taliban have always affirmed that they do not have it and do not know who it is. How do you explain the obvious contradictions of this?
Ahmad also said that the family “knows that the United States government has technical evidence that Mahmood was in GDI custody long after its arrest.”
He alleges that the Biden National Security Council “thoroughly managed the efforts of the State Department to ensure the release of my brother” and “blocked (to the State Department) the use of the data in their conversations with the Taliban, despite We told them that I would have directly confronted the Taliban. ” The Taliban claim that they never heard about my brother. ”
Neither the State Department nor the National Security Council responded to FOX News Digital confirmation requests for Ahmad’s claims.
Fox News Digital also contacted the Taliban spokesmen Zabihullah Mujahid and Suhail Shaheen about Habibi’s arrest and asked Mujahid what happened to Habibi after he was arrested by the GDI. Mujahid did not respond. Shaheen ordered Fox News Digital to communicate with the GDI and said he has no knowledge of the situation.
The Taliban have liberated for a long time of the detainee in the Bay of Guantanamo and facilitator of Al Qaeda, Muhammad Rahim, in exchange for the Americans who admitted that they were in their prisons. Ahmad Habibi told CBS News that President Biden assured him in a phone call on January 12 that the United States would not free Rahim unless the Taliban released Habibi.

The former special presidential envoy special for hostage issues, Hugh Dugan, told Fox News Digital that the Trump administration could follow multiple “effort lines” To ensure liberation of Glezmann and Habibi.
Dugan said this could imply a “direct rescue by the military” at a “subtle diplomacy continued in the background.”
Dugan said he acknowledged that “to say that we are doing everything we can … It is not satisfactory for a family member, frankly, or anyone, and they want to hear that you continue to identify what could have eluded us all the time, or that There is a crack on the horizon that opens.
“And we must realize that this could be another step on our way to recovery and that an effort line must be modified to adapt to the new realities at any given time.”
