Plaintiffs affected by the New Year Terrorist attack In Bourbon Street, in New Orleans, it has filed a civil lawsuit against leadership and the private companies hired to consult the city about security planning in the French quarter for negligence.
Shamsud-Din Texas Jabbar terrorist killed 14 civilians and wounded another 57 when he rammed an Ford F-150 through multitudes of people who celebrated the new year in the famous New Orleans street around 3 in the morning on January 1. Jabbar was killed in a shooting with the police.
“New Orleans is changed forever for this tragedy, and we have seen innumerable people who now alter their behavior and avoid Bourbon Street and even the city itself for fear of physical security. In addition, it is impossible to quantify how many people now suffer from paralyzing depression depression , anxiety and nightmares of what they saw and listened during that attack.

The 21 plaintiffs include Antoinette Klima, whose father, Reggie Hunter, died in the attack.
“On New Year’s Day, I received the heartbreaking called that Reggie didn’t survive,” Klima said in a statement. “Telling our son that his father was gone was the most difficult thing I had to do. And I have gone through my life: insist on Hurricane Katrina, lose his loved ones and even wade through floods for Save my grandfather. Three plaintiffs who survived the attack are also talking after the lawsuit was filed.

The survivor Daniel Ortega said that “he has never been a person to travel away from home to experience the eve of the New Year in a popular place until this year in particular” because “he always feared large groups of people, especially on special occasions.”
“I will live the rest of my hidden existence of any event that attracts attention and multitudes of people.”
Keith Eldridge, who celebrated his 60th birthday in New Orleans when the attack occurred, said he has constant flashbacks from the tragedy.

“This tragic event has affected me in a way that remains in my mind every day: tomorrow, noon and night. I have continuous flashbacks every day, and I no longer want to be in large crowds or events,” he said. “I don’t think I visit Bourbon Street again, much less New Orleans. The security protocols that were in force were not enough barriers to protect people, but I really hope that all those responsible learn a lesson and prevent it from happening again. “
The defendants accused of negligence include New Orleans city, the New Orleans Police Department, the French Quarter Management District, Mott Macdonald LLC and Hard Rock Construction LLC. The plaintiffs previously told Fox News Digital when the lawsuit was announced at the end of last month that do not comment on pending litigation.

The complaint claimed that the city “deviated” from its own plans for the eve of the New Year and the Super Bowl when it decided to replace the bollaros in November.
While the replacement process was ongoing when the attack occurred in the early hours of January 1, officials installed a temporary barrier where Bourbon Street meets channel, presumably to prevent suspicious vehicles from driving for the busy Tourist Area
However, according to local business owners and employees who previously spoke with Fox News Digital, that temporary barrier was established instead, allowing vehicles to pass the holidays.

For almost a decade, New Orleans had been discussing improvements security measures for the French quarter.

The city began planning updated security measures, including bollards aimed at preventing vehicles from entering occupied streets, in the French neighborhood in 2017.
“The French neighborhood is often full of pedestrians and represents an area where a massive victims incident could occur,” a States in the 2017 report. “This area also presents a risk and objective area for terrorism that the FBI has identified as a concern that the city must address.

A separate and confidential report of 2019 obtained by Fox News of the Security Consulting Firm Interfor International warned that Bourbon Street was the “most high profile objective” in New Orleans for a terrorist attack.
The 60 -page security evaluation in the states of the French Quarter Management District, “the current Bollard system in Bourbon Street does not seem to work.”

The federal authorities said that Jabbar had previously visited New Orleans twice, once on October 30, 2024 and once on November 10, 2024. He also visited Cairo and Toronto before the attack, said the FBI.
While Jabbar apparently acted alone, the authorities are investigating if he had an accomplice.
