Star Trek and Star Wars are two of the most famous sci-fi franchise, but they are very different from each other. The first is mostly about peace survey and diplomacy, and the second is mostly about heroic battles that determine the fate of the galaxy. Of course, both franchises have some things in common, including the fact that director JJ Abrams Helmed Star Trek (2009) and Star trek into the darkness as well as The strength wakes up and Skywalker’s rise. But the franchises were even closer … Specifically, the icon of Captain Kirk William Shatner has almost named extraterrestrials for Star Wars preferences.
Believe it or not, we only know William Shatner It almost becomes part of the very malignant Star Wars Prequel trilogy thanks to Seth McFarlan. On DVD special features for Family guy: It’s a trap! There are shots from his own interview McFarlane with George Lucas and the manufacturer admitted that he became friends with Shatner (after meeting at the bar similar to Mos Eisley in San Francisco) New hope. Finally, the trek icon said, “You’ll have to name the character for me”… something he intended as a joke, but something Lucas took serious Phantom threat.
Like many people aliens In the galaxy far, far away, the Nemoidians were originally very different in both design and title. In this interview with McFarlan Lucas, he claimed that he considered the name of these “Extraterrestrials” S’hatnarians “as a way to appreciate William Shatner’s request to have the character of Star Wars named after each other. Such a tribute would probably be highly awarded by Shatner, whose directorial debut (Star Trek in: Final Border) had a planet called Shana Ka Ree as a homage Sean ConneryThe man he originally wanted to throw like Sybok, Spock’s weirdo.
However, the creative process of the George Lucas is a bit like the Jedi Visions of Opents: Always in Motion, the Future is. Originally everyone was ready to make William Shatner part of the Star Wars universe by calling probably the main foreign race Phantom threat “S’hatnarians,” but later he changed his mind and instead named them “Nemoidians”. It is not entirely clear why Lucas turned the course about it, even if we cannot help, but we are wondering if someone told him that it would be difficult to sell people toys “shit” as half of their name.
Interestingly, while William Shatner should never be officially part of the Star Wars universe, some Star Trek Fans think Lucas decided to honor old colleague Kirk Herec instead. When I said out loud, the first part of the “Nemoidians” sounds and much Like “nimoy”. For this reason, there are sci-fi fans who think the final name of the alien is a tribute to the legendary Spock Actor Leonard Nimoy, but that has never been confirmed.
Frankly, just as we like both William Shatner and Star Wars, George Lucas definitely Made the right call here. Not only is the “naloidian” a better name than “S’Hhatnarian”, but it’s easier to take these weird eyes more seriously when he doesn’t sound like aliens named after shit. And for all fans with any modicum taste, well … We certainly didn’t need help with the association Prequels with bullshit, now?
