Duarte fights after an injury to the program

Oscar Duarte received some bad news today with Regis Programis suffering a shoulder injury and withdrawing his head fight on February 15 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

It will be out of the card unless Golden Boy can find a quick replacement to face Welter weight light in the main event. What a pity because that was the brilliant shock in this Dazn event.

Program injury

The chest on the card is the super medium Darius Fulghum vs. Winfred Harris. If Golden Boy promoters want to save the event, they can slide that game to the main event and may not care.

The ring It informs that the former twice champion of 140 Lb Programis (29-3, 24 kos) suffered an injury. Prograis is 36 years old, so it is not surprising that he has been injured in training.

Regis has lost its last two fights and has been without victories since its questionable divided decision of 12 rounds two years ago against Danielito Zorrilla on June 17, 2023. Many fans believe that Prograis also lost that fight.

Golden Boy hoped that Duarte (28-2-1, 22 kos) would use this fight against program to show his skills to collect his third consecutive victory to position him for an opportunity for the title.

Promoters should always have a backup by hand when older combatants are used in the holder or the place of co-feet. The possibilities that they do not go through the training camp without retiring are too high to not have someone waiting to intervene.

Given how poor Regis has seen in his last three fights, it should not be difficult for Golden Boy to find someone who replaces him with equal talent. The only problem with that is that Duarte would not have much time to prepare for that fighter. The last thing Oscar de la Hoya would like is that Duarte is beaten again and that he has all that hard work to rebuild it, go for the drain.

Since he lost to Ryan García for an Eighth Ronda knockout in December 2023, Duarte, 29, won his last two fights, beating Joseph Díaz and Botirzhon Akhmedov.
