Democratic strategists warned back The efforts against the bureaucracy of President Donald Trump It could be a “monster calculus error” in favor of the president.
Several democratic politicians have attacked Trump and the CEO of the billionaire Tesla, Elon Musk, to announce plans to reduce funds to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“My heart is with people on the street outside USAID, but my head tells me: ‘Man, Trump will be very satisfied to have this fight,” said veteran strategist David Axelrod. “When you talk about cuts, the first thing people say is: cut foreign help.”

The former United States ambassador, the mayor of Chicago and the chief of Cabinet of the White House of Obama, Rahm Emanuel, also criticized the intense approach of the Democrats in the USAID funds instead of several other more popular problems.
“Do not fight in each fight. Do not balance in each launch. And my opinion is, while I worry about the USAID as former ambassador, that is not the hill in which I am going to die,” Emanuel said.
Several Democratic legislators protested Trump and Musk’s efforts to dismantle the foreign aid agency at an event outside the USAID building in Washington, DC, Monday. The representative Ilhan Omar, D-minn., Made some of the most inflammatory comments, accusing Trump of starting a dictatorship.
“It’s a very, very sad day in the United States. We are witnessing a constitutional crisis,” Omar said. “We talked about Trump wanted to be a dictator on the first day. And here we are. This is how the beginning of the dictatorship is seen when you destroy the Constitution, and you settle as the only power. This is how dictators are done.”

Despite Omar’s enthusiasm, both Axelrod and Emanuel warned how “voters could simply disconnect them” if the Democrats come out against each issue raised by Trump.
The defense of an agency like Usaid, feared Axelrod, could exacerbate the growing image of the party as a “elite institution party.”
“Part of the problem for the Democratic Party is that it has become an unconditional defender of institutions at a time when people are enraged in institutions,” said Axelrod. “And they become the minds of many voters, an elite party, and for many people who are trying to fight and get along, this will seem an elite passion.”
Instead, Emanuel suggested that the party focus on issues beyond what “coastal democrats” like.
“Can a third of eighth grade students read … and now want to close the Department of Education?” Emanuel said. “I am for Usaid, but that makes its coastal democrats really feel very comfortable with our moral principles. I worry about children who can’t read.”
