An Israeli military court sentenced a seven -month prison soldier after he admitted the aggravated abuse of Gaza’s Palestinian detainees at the SDE Teiman military detention center.
The Israel Defense Forces (FDI) said that the reservist, whom he did not appoint, was convicted of “several incidents in which he hit those stopped with his fists and used his gun while they were handcuffed and with their eyes bandaged” .
“These acts were committed in the presence of other soldiers, some of which asked him to stop, and were even documented on the defendant’s mobile phone,” he added.
Haaretz newspaper said He was the first soldier convicted of abusing the Gazans retained during the war with Hamas.
He quoted Beit’s military court saying that the soldier admitted three positions of aggravated abuse and an improper conduct position as part of a guilt agreement with prosecutors.
They related to four separate incidents between January and June 2024, when he was protecting the trucks that transported the detainees, he said.
According to Haaretz, the court found an un specified number of masked soldiers, whose identities are still unknown, had also participated in abuse.
In addition to the prison mandate, the convicted soldier also received a suspended and degraded sentence to the private range, according to the IDF.
“The soldiers have the duty to use the force that is entrusted to them according to the values and orders of the IDF, at all times and in times of war in particular,” said the FDI.
The SDE Teiman detention center was established after the beginning of the Gaza War 15 months ago. Since then, he has been at the SERIOUS ABUSE REPORT Center.
In July, extreme right -wing protesters broke into SDE Teiman after the Israeli Military Police went to the question nine suspected reservists to violate a detainee and cause a potentially deadly injury. Several of the reservists were subsequently arrested.
In October, a report by a UN Research Commission claimed that thousands of detainees of children and adults from Gaza had been “subject to generalized and systematic abuse, physical and psychological violence, and sexual and gender violence equivalent to the crime of war and crime.
The Israel government said it rejected the accusations of bad treatment and torture of detainees, and insisted that it was “completely committed to international legal standards.” He also said he had carried out exhaustive investigations in each complaint.
The Israeli army launched a campaign to destroy Hamas in response to an unprecedented cross -border attack on October 7, 2023, in which some 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken as hostages.
Since then, more than 47,550 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health of the territory.
According to the Israeli Rights Group Hamoked, 1,802 Palestinians of Gaza are currently being retained as “illegal combatants” in Israeli prisons. The figure does not include the detainees retained by the military.
