India will open a new domain name of banks to fight digital fraud

The Central Bank of India provides an exclusive “Abbank.in” domain as part of the efforts of the Digital payment fraud and online banking services since April 2025.

The Bank Technology Development and Research Institute (IDRBT) will serve as an exclusive registrar for the new domain. The Central Bank plans to spread a separate ‘Fin.in’ domain for non-banking financial institutions.

“The increase in fraud in digital payments is a significant concern,” said RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, aims to reduce cyber security threats in a new domain system and reduce harmful activities such as phishing. The action comes as India Digital payment fraud and struggle to increase in prey lending applications.

The Central Bank said that the legal banking will provide detailed instructions to the new initiative designed to help legal banking sites from fake.
