A young member of the new unit of the Government Efficiency Department (Doge) of Elon Musk has resigned after being linked to a racist social networks account.
The media reports tied for Marko Elez, 25, who had previously worked for the Musk Spacex company, with a social media account now eliminated that promoted racism and eugenics.
The White House confirmed on Friday that Elez resigned, although he did not specify why.
Musk himself acknowledged the game, publishing a survey in X, the social networks platform he possesses, asking the followers if he should bring back to the junction employee who made “inappropriate statements through a pseudonym now eliminated.”
“Only for the registration, it was racist before it was great,” he read a pseudonym account in July.
The account connected to Mr. Elez, first informed by the Wall Street Journal, published a variety of incendiary comments that were verified as authentic by the BBC.
“You couldn’t pay me to marry my ethnic group,” said a post in the account in September.
“Normalizes Indian hatred,” said another month.
All publications have been eliminated since then.
Until Friday morning, more than 385,000 people seem to have participated in the Musk survey on Mr. Elez’s re-contracting, although he did not mention it by name.
Until now, 78% have voted in favor of their return.
Responding to a user who said that Musk should talk to Mr. Elez “about racist things. It’s not great,” the billionaire replied: “It’s true.”
Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday that although he disagrees “with some of Elez’s publications … I don’t think the stupid activity of social networks should ruin the life of a child.”
“Then I say that it is back,” he added.
Elez’s resignation occurs in the middle of a growing scrutiny of Doge, the cost reduction advisory group established by Trump that has become a dominant force in the first days of his second term.
Musk and his team have led a vertiginous effort to reduce the size of the federal government.
On Thursday, an American judge launched an obstacle to one of those initiatives, stopping a plan to offer incentives to millions of federal workers to voluntarily resign this month.
Musk has also defended an effort to dismantle USAID, the government agency responsible for international development. All but a handful of essential personnel, of a workforce of about 10,000 people, will be presented on administrative license at midnight on Friday, including thousands abroad.
