Judge blocks Musk’s access to the records of the Treasury Department

A federal judge has blocked the Efficient Department of the Government of Elon Musk (Doge) to access the personal financial data of millions of Americans in the records of the Treasury Department, according to judicial documents.

The US district judge Paul A. Engelmayer issued a preliminary court order on Saturday to prohibit access, ordering Musk and his team to immediately destroy any copy of the records.

The measure occurs after 19 state general prosecutors demanded to the Trump administration after Doge, a cost reduction initiative directed by Musk, received access to the records.

They argued access to Musk, a “special government employee”, and Doge, who is not an official government department, violated the Federal Law.

There were no immediate comments from the White House, President Donald Trump or Musk.

The Democratic State Attorney General sued Trump, the Treasury Department and Treasury Secretary, Scott Besent on Friday.

The order of Engelmayer, issued early on Saturday, said the states “would face irreparable damage” without immediate relief.

“That is so much because of the risk that the new policy present the dissemination of confidential and confidential information and the greatest risk that the systems in question are more vulnerable than before hacking,” said the order.

The order prevents the defendants from granting access to the records of the Treasury Department that contain personal identification or confidential information to Government’s special employees, appointed politicians and other employees outside the department.

The court order restricts any other person who accesss those records that are not officials who need to do so for their work in the Office of Fiscal Services and have approved background verifications.

The judge also ordered anyone among those restricted to immediately destroy copies of the records.

The conditions will remain in place until the next Court hearing on February 14.
