While Newsom is preparing for possible confrontations with the Trump administration, it has also been working with Trump to ensure federal disaster relief for the Los Angeles forest fires. Trump visited California at the end of January to meet Newsom, and Newsom traveled to Washington, DC, in early February for another round of discussions with the president.
“We are working throughout the hall, as we always have, to ensure that the survivors have the resources and support they need,” said Newsom in a statement on Wednesday. “Thanks to President Trump for coming to our communities to see this first hand and meet with me today to continue our joint efforts to support the affected people.”
