A group of transgender people is challenging the Trump administration A new policy that avoids the issuance of passports with sex designations that do not coincide with the biological sex of a applicant at birth.
Seven people represented by the American Union of Civil Liberties filed a lawsuit claiming that policy violates the privacy and rights of the first amendment. In 2022, the State Department allowed passport applicants to select M, F or X for sex.
“The plaintiffs in this case have had their lives interrupted by a chaotic policy clearly motivated by Animus that serves zero public interest,” said Sruti Swaminathan, lawyer for the LGBTQ & HIV project of the ACLU.
“Our clients need to travel through work, school and family, and force them to bring documents that directly contradict what they know about themselves as true, or retain those documents completely, it is a shameless effort to violate their privacy and deny them their freedom. Be themselves “.

The rule occurred after President Donald Trump signed an executive order that promotes the “biological truth.”
The order, “defend women from the extremism of gender ideology and the restoration of biological truth to the federal government,” declares that the United States will recognize only two sexes, men and women, based on immutable biological characteristics.
It prohibits the use of gender identity in legal and administrative contexts and requires that federal agencies, including those that supervise housing, prisons and educationAdhering to this definition by enforcing the laws and issuing regulations.
The order directs the changes to the identification documents issued by the Government, prohibits the promotion of “gender ideology” in federal programs, terminates the previous executive actions that promoted the inclusion of gender identity and instructs federal agencies to Eliminate orientation or regulations that come into conflict with the new policy.

Ordered the requirement that the identification documents issued by the Government “reflect precisely” the SEX OF THE HOLDERdefined as “masculine” or “woman.”
In a statement issued by ACLU, Reid Solomon-Lane, one of the plaintiffs, said he lived his entire adult life as a man.
“Everyone in my personal and professional life knows me as a man, and any stranger in the street that would find me would see me as a man,” said Solomon-Lane. “Now, as a married father of three children, Trump’s executive order and the resulting passport policy have threatened that life of security and ease.
“If my passport reflected a sexual designation that is inconsistent with what I am, they would force me every time I used my passport to travel or identify, causing a potential risk for my safety and the safety of my family.”
