The unified super medium weight champion of three orientations, Canelo Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 kos) will face the champion of the FII William Scull (23-0, 9 kos) for the indisputable 168-pound championship on the 3 May in the Arena kingdom in Riadh, Saudi Arabia.

This will be the first fight of the lucrative agreement of four Canelo fights for the Riad de Turki Al-Sheikh season. It also establishes the next Canelo match against Terence Crawford of 154 pounds on September 13.

Indisputable championship

The scull born in Cuba, 29, is a fighter who Canelo chose not to fight recently, which cost him his FIB belt. Scull then won the title of IBF, hitting Vladimir Shishkin Last October in Germany. Now, Álvarez will seek to recover the IBF belt to go to Crawford’s game with four titles instead of only one.

Scull’s victory over Shiskhin was questionable, since he was overcome in that fight and seemed to lose. Even if you were one of the fans who thought that Scull deserved victory, you cannot avoid the fact that it looked like a fighter below the average that would lose with the recent opponents of Canelo, Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia.

It is something superficial to which only ultra hardcore boxing fans will pay attention. The average fanatic will not care how many titles Canelo has in his power for Crawford’s fight. Those who like Canelof fighting against the 38 -year -old Nebraska native will be happy to see them fight, even without belts.

It would be better for the average fans around the world if Canelo used the first fight of his four fighting agreement with Turki to face someone who has heard, respect and have been pressing to fight. Fans want David Benavidez as their next opponent, not the little -known Scull, that only those who closely follow the boxing have heard. Scull is a complete stranger to everyone else in the world.
