Austrian police search for ‘fraudist shaman’ suspicious

Police in Austria have issued a European arrest warrant for a woman who believe that she made a shaman to defraud the victims of large sums of money.

Police said they discovered effective, jewelry and gold worth more than 10 million euros (£ 8.3 million) in the woman’s house in Mödling, near Vienna.

They said that the suspect is a 44 -year -old Austrian citizen appointed only as Mariana M, who was called Amela.

His 29 -year -old son has been arrested and is in custody in the city of Wiener Neustadt.

Police say that Mariana M could have disappointed people in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Police say that Mariana M told a victim that a “close relative had been cursed and that he foresaw his death. To break this alleged curse, the defendant demanded 730,000 euros for ‘cleaning rituals’.”

They said that after the victim had delivered the money to the defendant in several installments, the suspect interrupted the contact. Then, another woman informed the victim on the phone that the “shaman” had fallen into a severe coma as a result of the ritual.

The police director in Bajo Austria, Franz Popp, said: “In a world in which many people look for answers to the essential issues of life, deposits have been established that they claim that they have supernatural powers.”

“They exploit the trust of their victims who are in emotional or financial difficulties and seek help and support,” he added.

Police have appealed to any other victim to communicate with the Criminal Investigation Office of Bajo Austria.
