The special presidential envoy of the United States for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg said on Saturday that a peace plan for the two nations at war could come in a few days or weeks.
“I am in Trump’s time,” Kellogg told delegates in a marginal event at the Munich Security Conference, referring to the famous decision -making of the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
“He will ask you to do this work today and want to know tomorrow why he is not resolved,” said Kellogg, a key negotiator for Ukraine and allied nations in the recently presented peace conversations.
“You have to give us some space to breathe and time, but when I say that, I’m not speaking six months, I’m talking about days and weeks,” he said.
Kellogg said there was currently a “double way” approach for peace conversations, with American representatives that are presented with Russia, and separately with Ukraine and allied nations. Kellogg, on the other hand, said he was working on behalf of this last group and insisted, against the previous suggestions of the United States, that both Ukraine and Europe must be part of those conversations.
“You have to bring allies with you. Are they going to play (Ukraine and Europe) play a role? Of course they are. You can’t do it exclusion from anyone,” he said.
“We want to make sure it is lasting and that it is a sustainable peace,” he added.
When asked if he could describe the requirements for a credible security guarantee for Ukraine, Kellogg said he couldn’t do it yet.
“The answer at this time is no,” he said, and said he was at the conference to gather ideas from Ukraine and Europe. Sometimes, the United States has a “problem just looking through its own lens,” he added.
