KFC, the fast food restaurant chain previously known as Kentucky Fried Chickn, is moving its corporate headquarters in the United States from Kentucky to Texas, announced its owner.
Yum Brands said it will change Louisville’s office to plane, although KFC will maintain some operations in Kentucky, including its KFC Foundation.
However, Andy Beshea, governor of the state of Kentucky, said: “I am disappointed by this decision and I think the company’s founder would also be.
In recent years, many companies have moved to Texas attracted to the lowest taxes of the State and friendly business policies.
Yum Brands’s decision is part of a plan to have two headquarters for its main brands. KFC and Pizza Hut will be plane, while Taco Bell and Inhabit Burger & Grill will remain in Irvine, California.
Yum Brands Executive Director, David Gibbs, said: “These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our clients, employees, franchisees and shareholders.”
But Beshea said: “The name of this company begins with Kentucky, and has commercialized the inheritance and culture of our state in the sale of its product.”
The history of KFC in the state goes back to the 1930s, when its founder Colonel Harland Sanders began selling fried chicken at a service station in Corbin.
Today, Sanders’ face is stamped on the fronts of stores of more than 24,000 KFC restaurants in more than 145 countries and territories around the world.
Since pandemic, many American companies have moved their headquarters.
According to a report by the CBRE, Austin Real Estate Services and other Texas Services Firm, they have been particularly successful due to the friendly environment for state businesses.
