Virginia’s bipartisan legislators are presenting a bill for the reform of criminal justice, according to the proponents of the Florida Law of 2022 that presented the unlikely match of Governor Ron Desantis and the magnate of the rap Jay-Z.
State of. Wren WilliamsR-Stuart, heads the effort that has already obtained the support of the entire democratic majority in the lower house of Virginia earlier this month.
The state democratic majority Senate will vote on its version of the legislation on Wednesday, after which a final bill will be conferred by Governor Glenn Youngkin review.
Williams legislation will offer the convicted of supervised probation the ability to fulfill certain criteria in exchange for a lighter treatment.
An example is that the problems that can prove that they are carrying out a job, looking for educational opportunities or participating in rehabilitation programs for several months could see their trial period.
These provisions and others in the bill are similar to the legislation of Desantis three years ago that had been defended by the “Reform Alliance” of the founded criminal justice of Jay-Z.
Florida’s law, written by a Republican from Tampa, allows successions to obtain education and workforce loans that in turn take them out of the fastest system, according to Axios.
In Virginia, Williams told Fox News Digital that he was inspired by both Florida’s law and for the fact that reform initiatives and the law of the first federal level step have been the key priorities for President Donald Trump.
“Virginia (is) offering conservative solutions that emphasize rehabilitation and second opportunities,” said Williams.
“The Virginia approach reflects Florida’s successful model, focusing on providing people under supervision with the opportunity to reduce their terms of probation by participating in rehabilitation programs such as job training, education and mental health services.”
While it is generally seen as a liberal or democratic Bailiwick, Williams added that Virginia’s legislation shows that conservatives can create a consensus on reforms that also align with their values while they remain compassionate.
“By focusing on rehabilitation and offering people the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to change, the State has shown that reducing recidivism, reducing costs and promoting public safety are attainable objectives,” he said.
The crime and reform were the main problems in the last elections of governor, with Youngkin and former governor Terry Mcaulifffe exchanging Barbs, even about the group of “defining the police” of the Democrats who had backed the Democrats and supposedly “The first criminals” that Mcauliffe “had made Mcauliffe” the Board of Probation.

Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears, the leading of the First Line Republican Governor in the November race, sincerely supported the legislation in comments to the conservative radio presenter John Fredericks this week.
“What I am talking about is that we have about 50,000 men and women who are on probation. And if we can give them incentives, we can commit ourselves, get education; then if you have a job, of course, then there is something about the work that dignifies The soul, “Sears said.
“And all the work, of course, is worthy. This is the United States, where dreams come to see him. It is where you can tell your children, ‘You can do it in the United States.'”

“So I’m in favor of lifting that soul,” Sears concluded.
The main Democratic candidate, former representative Abigail Spanberger, has also been a defender of some reforms of criminal justice, vociferantly supporting George Floyd’s justice law in the police while he is in Congress.
A spokesman for Youngkin told him Fox News Digital The “Governor will review any bill that reaches his desk”.
In 2024, he vetoed a similar bill, HB-457, which would decrease the test periods and establish criteria for the reduction of such.
