TO The man has been seriously injured in a knife attack near the Berlin Holocaust monument.
The incident took place around 18:00 local time (17:00 GMT), police said in X, adding that investigations on what happened “are ongoing.”
The images showed emergency vehicles and armed police aligned along one side of the commemorative site. According to the Tagespiegel newspaper, the officers had cordoned off the site and were doing a search.
The victim, a 30 -year -old Spanish tourist, has been transported to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be potentially mortal.
The police have arrested a male suspect. It is not clear if he was known by the victim.
Police said they did not know any alleged reason, and that several witnesses were interviewed.
They also said they didn’t know what exactly the weapon was.
Many officers have been deployed in the area after sequelae, with a police statement about X that says that there are also rescue workers on the site “who care for several people who witnessed the events.”
The attack seems to have taken place on the north side of the monument, in front of which the United States embassy is located.
The monument to the murdered Jews of Europe, which covers 19,000 square meters, is described as the central monument of the Holocaust of Germany.
Hours after the attack in the German capital, the Swedish police said they had arrested three men near the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, on suspicion of preparing to commit violent crimes.
“We cannot comment on the potential motive,” said Police spokeswoman Susanna Rinaldo to the Reuters news agency.
It has not been suggested that the attack in Berlin and arrests in Stockholm are linked.
