The American Bar Association (ABA) has voted to suspend its Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) Standard for law schools such as the Trump administration seeks to destroy all the programs and initiatives associated with DEI within the Federal Government.
The ABA Legal Education section and admissions to the Bar Association voted to stop its current standard, known as Rule 206, until August 31, while reviewing a proposed review of the rule, according to ABA Journal. The vote took place at the quarterly meeting of the Council in San Antonio on Friday.
The Board Standards Committee said it would evaluate the changes proposed to the light of the recent actions of the Trump administration to ensure that it can enforce the standard in accordance with the law.

“The opinion of the Committee is that with the executive orders and the law that is in flow, it would be an extreme difficulty for law schools if our standards demanded that they do certain things that can make them take more risks of litigation and potentially violate the Law, “said Thies, according to ABA Journal.
The members of the Office of the Managing Director of the Council will visit the law schools this spring and will provide written guidance, said ABA Journal.

“Yesterday, the American Lawyers Association voted to suspend the application of rule 206, a Dei requirement for student bodies and the powers of law faculties,” Bondi wrote in X.
“This is a victory for common sense! We are bringing meritocracy to the legal system.”
The Trump administration has the mission to gut all the programs and initiatives associated with DEI within the federal government, arguing that it has reduced the standards and has promoted an agenda to arouse. In his first week back in office, Trump signed an executive order that ended Dei’s offices and initiatives throughout the federal workforce.
It followed those that rise with two executive orders that prohibit the “radical gender ideology” and the initiatives of all the branches of the US army.

A federal judge on Friday granted a preliminary judicial order for the sections of the executive orders of the Trump Administration on Dei, stating that parts of the executive orders probably violate the Constitution and Rights of freedom of expression.
The court order largely Block the sections of Trump’s orders that seek to end federal support for the programs considered related to DEI and prevents the Trump administration from canceling the contracts that it believes that promotes diversity, equity or inclusion.
