Mali’s military government says that accusations are investigating that the soldiers “executed coldly” at least 24 civilians in the north of the country on Monday.
That statement was made by a rebel alliance of Tuareg separatist, called Azawad Liberation Front (Fla), which is fighting against the Malian Government in the same region.
The Fla accuses the Malian forces and Wagner’s mercenaries to intercept two passenger vehicles that travel to Algeria from the city of Gao in Maliens and kill civilians on board, including women and children.
In a statement, the Army Chief, Omar Diarra, said the accusations “transmit through terrorist networks, allies and sponsors” follow other “unfounded” statements against state forces.
For many years, the Malian government has been fighting both Tuareg rebels that seek a separatist state in the northern groups and jihadists linked to Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group.
The army that seized power in the coup d’etat in 2020 and 2021 hired Russian mercenaries of the Wagner paramilitary group to help improve security in the country.
Both government forces and Russians have often been accused of groups of rights to commit gross abuse of human rights against civiliansThey deny.
Last month, Mali was one of the three countries under the military government to leave the regional bloc of Western Africa, after rejecting their demands to restore the civil government.
The withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger gave a great blow to the Ecowas, which at age 50 is considered the most important regional group in Africa.
Mali military leaders also finished ties with the former colonial power France, whose troops left the country in 2022 after more than a decade fighting Islamist insurgents.
The following year, the 12,000 UN peace forces left Mali in the instructions of the Board.
