The viral country singer Oliver Anthony is asking Americans to return to their roots and renounce false idols.
“I am here to remind you that we do not need our false idols,” said Anthony, whose real name is Christopher Anthony Linsford, during a speech on Tuesday at the Alliance Conference for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) held in London.
“We must no longer trust politicians who lean against money to manage our city or our states. We need to find real leaders everywhere and empower them,” said Anthony.

Anthony, whose 2023 song, “Rich Men North of Richmond,” reached number 1 on Billboard Hot 100, said that American society has become soft.
“Our modern society is (a) the convenient, comfortable, fragile existence, often taken to the backs of these self -demonstrated nobodies,” he said. “And we forgive my generalization, but in the modern world, we are so busy idolizing the genuine things of society, egocentric celebrities, politicians without thorns, clicks, the influential ones in social networks.”
Anthony added that “it seems from my perspective that these people often live small comfortable lives, while many of our real heroes are drugs through mud and never once gave a genuine thanks for it.”
Anthony, who announced in a YouTube video on October 29, 2024 that was leaving the music industry to focus on an “itinerant ministry”, also shared their concern about how social networks and digital era are impacting society .
“What is bad is the lack of control and agency we have about these systems, and without realizing it, we are being scheduled, and our culture is being marketed,” said Anthony. “Therefore, the more time we spend in these digital information systems, the more we will return to the media of one of a fixed set of wide Internet cohorts.
