Pope Francis He remained in a critical condition in an Italian hospital on Sunday, since officials shared that he suffers from renal failure in the early stage in the midst of their treatment for bilateral pneumonia.
Francis, who currently stays at the Hospital of the University of Gemelli in Rome, remains alert and attended Mass on Sunday, according to the Vatican. The Pope has been struggling against pneumonia and complex pulmonary infection since he was hospitalized on February 14.
The Santa See Press Office published a detailed statement on Pope’s health of 88 years on Sunday, pointing out that its condition “remains critical, but since (Saturday) at night, it has not experienced any respiratory crises.”
“He received two units of red blood cells with benefit, and their hemoglobin levels have increased,” the report said.

“Thrombocytopenia remains stable; however, some blood tests show early and mild renal failure (renal failure), which is currently under control.”
The Holy See also pointed out that Pope Francis is receiving oxygen and “remains alert and well oriented.”
“The complexity of the clinical situation and the time necessary for pharmacological treatments to show results require that the prognosis remains reserved,” the statement concluded. “This morning, in the apartment on the tenth floor, he participated in the Holy Mass, along with those who have been taking care of during these hospitalization days.”

The statement came after Pope Francis published his own message about X, thanking the International Catholic community for their prayers. He had suffered a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis on Saturday, a condition worsened by the fact that he had part of one of his retired lungs when he was younger.
“Recently I have received many messages of affection, and they have seen me particularly affected by children’s letters and drawings,” Pope Francis published on Sunday X. “Thank you for its proximity and for the comforting sentences that I have received from everything The world! ”
