Working document or resignation, says Dege to US federal workers in email

The US government workers received an email on Saturday afternoon asking them to list their achievements last week or resign, the last development in the efforts of the Trump administration addressed to the Federal Work Force.

The email occurred after billionaire Trump confidant Elon Musk tweeted that employees “would soon receive an email that he requested to understand what they did last week.”

“The lack of response will be taken as a resignation,” he wrote.

Musk has been leading an external effort to aggressively reduce government expenditure through fund and dismissal cuts.

The email arrived at the entrance trays shortly after Trump spoke at the Conservative Political Action (CPAC) conference. The messages arrived with the subject line “What did you do last week?” From a sender that appears as HR.

In a copy of the email obtained by the BBC, employees were asked to explain their achievements last week at five bullet points, without revealing classified information, before midnight on Monday.

The message did not mention whether a failure to respond would be considered a resignation.

The Personnel Management Office, the Federal Government Human Resources Agency, confirmed that the emails were authentic in a statement to CBS, the American news partner of the BBC.

“As part of the Trump administration commitment with an efficient and responsible federal workforce, OPM is asking employees to provide a brief summary of what they did last week at the end of Monday, cc’ing to its manager. Agencies will determine any next step.

The US Federation of Government employees, the largest union that represents federal employees, criticized the message as “cruel and disrespectful” and promised to challenge any “illegal termination” of federal employees.

“Once again, Elon Musk and the Trump administration have demonstrated their total disdain for federal employees and critical services that provide the US people,” said Everett Kelley, president of the Union, in a statement.

Early in the day, Trump promoted cuts and told a multitude of followers in CPAC that the work of federal employees had been inappropriate because some of them work remotely at least sometimes.

“We are eliminating all unnecessary, incompetent and corrupt bureaucrats of the Federal Labor Force,” the president told the crowd at the annual conference in the Washington suburbs on Saturday afternoon.

“We want the government to be smaller, more efficient,” he added. “We want to keep the best people, and we are not going to keep the worst people.”

The Government Efficiency Department (Doge) is not an official government department, but the Musk team has demanded broad changes in the Federal Infrastructure of the United States, with the approval of the White House.

Thousands of government employees in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Pentagon and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as other agencies, have been fired in recent weeks.

The email reflects the handling of Musk employees after acquiring the Twitter social networks platform in 2022. As the personnel there were reduced under their property, the ultimatums issued that included an application now infamous to commit to being “extremely hard “At work or give up.

Trump has repeatedly applauded the cutting measures of the Musk government.

In a social publication of the truth, Trump said that Musk is doing a “great job” to reduce the size of the federal government and that he would like to see him “become more aggressive” in the search.
