Uganda probes the death of the Nigerian footballer of Vipers Sport Club

The Police in Uganda is investigating the death of a Nigerian professional footballer who allegedly fell from a shopping center in the capital, Kampala.

According to the reports, Abubakar Lawal, 29, fell on a balcony on the third floor in the Voicemall shopping arcade, where he had gone to visit a Tanzano friend. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead, police said.

They said that Lawal’s friend, identified as Omary Naima, had left it in her room, which is part of the shopping center, preparing tea before the incident occurred.

Lawal was a striker who played for the local team Vipers Sports Club, who has expressed his sadness for the “premature death of our beloved player.”

Taxes have fluid to the footballer, who has been with the Vipers Club since July 2022 after a period of two years with Rwanda Kigali.

Vipers said that “Lawal (Sokoto man) was a unique person. He had a big heart of gold. He really cared about people and struggled to help. He was incredibly generous.”

“We regret the sudden disappearance of our former Abubakar Lawal player today.

“It is difficult to assume that you are no longer a kind, talented, cheerful and loving person you have been. We will always miss you brother,” said Uganda soccer player Mustafa Kizza.

Local media say the matter has left more questions than answers in contradictory reports of the circumstances of Lawal’s death.

Some media previously reported that he had died in a motorcycle accident.

Police said the exact circumstances of death were being investigated.

“The authorities are recovering CCTV images and making exhaustive interrogations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident,” said the police.

Police have recovered some articles belonging to the deceased player, including two smartphones, shoes, headphones and training kit.

“More updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” the police added.
