A furious Donald Trump has faced Volodymyr Zelensky, and the president of the United States told his Ukrainian counterpart to reach an agreement with Russia “or we are out.”
The couple repeatedly interrupted during the heated exchange in a way that is rarely seen in the White House.
At one time, an angry -looking Trump said that Zelensky was not grateful enough for the military and political support of the United States, and that he was “betting with World War Tres.”
Zelensky said there should be no “commitments” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Trump said kyiv would have to make concessions to reach a peace agreement with Russia.
The meeting was destined as a prelude to the two to sign a mineral agreement, which did not continue.
In what seemed like a public benefit from the Ukrainian president by Trump and the American vice president JD Vance, the conversation began with Vance telling Zelensky that the war had to end through diplomacy.
Zelensky asked “What kind of diplomacy?” before being accused by the vice president of being disrespectful.
The discussion then intensified quickly, since Trump and Vance accused the president of Ukraine of being ungrateful for three years of American support during the war with Russia, and Trump said he was not in a position to tell them how he should feel.
Not long after the meeting and far ahead of the previously planned schedule, Zelensky was seen leaving the White House in his official vehicle.
Meanwhile, Trump led Truth Social, the social networks platform he owns, Saying “Zelensky did not respect the United States in its precious oval office”.
“We had a very significant meeting in the White House today,” he wrote. “It was much learned that it could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.
“It is surprising what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelensky is not ready for peace if the United States is involved, because he feels that our participation gives him a great advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want peace.”
He added that Zelensky “can return when he is ready for peace.”
The two leaders were expected to sign an agreement that gave Washington access to the Ukrainian oil, gas and rare minerals, which was later confirmed that it had not occurred.
