Cleveland, Texas – Colonia crestMonday is one of the strangest places in Texas infested in Texas infested in Texas infested in the Department of National Security, it is one of the strangest places in which I have been, and I do it.
My colleague Elizabeth and I entered Colony Ridge from Plum Grove, where a murder took place even when the federals were arresting about 90 alleged illegal immigrant criminals This week, and almost immediately, the action began.
My head was buried in my phone’s GPS when Elizabeth saw two cruises from the Texas Public Security Department and said: “We will follow them.”
Once inside, Colony Ridge, about 30 miles northeast of Houston, is a strange maze of skirts of alleyless alley, with a casual home spilled on him. It is almost incomprehensible. If you let me fall into the middle of Colony Ridge without a map, I am not sure to leave.

But we did not need a map while we placed the police, and indeed, five minutes later, in the midst of the strange expansion, they stopped in two cruises of the sheriff of Liberty County and two unmarked cars with flashing lights.
Elizabeth and I walked towards a taco truck with an makeshift bar to find four officers from the National Security Police Department who spoke with a mild man in a shirt that said “Honduras” next to a white truck without registration.

Trying to evaluate the situation, I approached one of the sheriffs, the notebook and the pen in my hand. “Excuse me,” I started, to which immediately, although without disdain, the officer simply said: “No.”
No one in any of the branches of the application of the law seemed anxious to answer any questions.
The dilemma that one faces in Colony Ridge is, why? It is an expansion of non -uniform housing plagued roads anywhere, abandoned cars and trucks, half sunk in the mud of wetlands, so the Environmental Protection Agency has launched an investigation.

What is the purpose of this place? The owner of a local business, George Cuellar, told me: “It makes no sense.” It is difficult to draw a conclusion that is not the fact that all this mass development was designed to be sold to illegal immigrants. It is an excellent place to hide.
Another owner of a nearby business, Floyd, who runs the Fat Floyd barbecue, expressed his sympathy for residents. “Those people work hard,” he told us, but added: “Of course, you have to get the criminals.”
In Taco truck parking, the conversation between DHS officers and the man, apparently detained, was civil, almost cordial, with some laughs. Then we saw that there was a woman in the truck, and two children, the little cute like a button in her soccer shirt in Blue and White Honduras.
We wonder if this family was about to be carried. But after a very confusing mixture by the police and some filed files, the family was free to leave, and police cars dispersed, more deeply in Colony Ridge.

Perhaps due to the recent raids, there was no one in the development of 60 square miles, not in the few dollars of dollars, not in yards, not in the porches. He felt like a village of Potemkin, as if it were not real, but rather some type of trick.
Many of the houses are rampant trailers, but others are boasting, with high doors, step and elegant cars wire on the entrance path. Patriotism was shown with flags everywhere, but it was not the flag of the United States of America, it was the flag of Mexico.

I was glad that the family was released. In my mind, I saw the child shuffled by child protection services, and I’m glad it has not happened. But I don’t know if this family is legally here, if DHS simply decided that they were not a threat, and therefore it was not a priority.
Within Colony Ridge, reality is much more complicated than the extreme in the illegal immigration debate would recognize. These are human beings, not pieces on a game board.

It is difficult to know what the solution to Colony Ridge will be, if it will be eliminated from criminals, but it is allowed to remain, or if, through state or federal action, it is dismantled. But anyway, it is a testimony of the destructive force of our open edge policies.
Closing the border is an obvious first beginning and well, but what of the millions already here? In Colony Ridge, and throughout the United States, that question remains to be answered.
