Trump’s White House is shooting later Governor Gretchen WhitmerD-Mich., Warned Wednesday that the rates of 25% of President Donald Trump could endanger the Michigan automotive industry.
During his seventh state of the state of the state, Whitmer rang the alarm of Trump’s plan to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, which led the White House to shoot.
“Whitmer seems to be running more for the governor of Canada in his robust defense of a mortal status quo in which more than one million Americans have been killed by the Chinese poison of Fentanil that pours in our borders of the north and southern,” said the main counselor of the White House for commerce and the manufacture of Peter Navarro in a statement to Fox News Digital. “President Trump will stop that slaughter even when he defends the United States automotive industry, which will once again go to Trump tariffs.”
Trump Rate Plans He would impact Michigan, given his border shared with Canada and the leadership of Detroit of the United States automotive industry. Whitmer has identified economic development and trade with Canada as key priorities for its state this year.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Mich. Democrat, said that 25% tariffs of President Donald Trump could damage Michigan’s automotive industry after Trump promised to save the automotive industry during his 2024 campaign.
“Industry leaders and the main economic minds on both sides of the hall are warning us about the ravages that 25% of tariffs would generate in Michigan’s automotive industry, while increasing daily expenses for families,” Whitmer continued. “I am grateful that Republicans, Democrats and private sector leaders are speaking against generalized 25% tariffs in our neighbors. Because we know that not Canada would mean saying yes to China.”
Trump confirmed on Thursday that his rates plan proposed for 25% would take effect next week because “drugs are still arriving in our country from Mexico and Canada.” He said the tariffs will begin on March 4 “until they stop, that is very limited.”
“… The proposed rates scheduled to enter into force on March 4, in fact, will come into force, as scheduled. China will also be charged an additional 10% tariff on that date. The second reciprocal rate of April will remain in full validity and effect,” Trump said in Truth Social.
Earlier this month, Trump issued a 30 -day break in his 25% rate plan for Canada and Mexico after negotiations on border security and drug trafficking with US leaders.

“I am very satisfied with this initial result, and the tariffs announced on Saturday will stop for a period of 30 days to see if a final economic agreement with Canada can be structured,” Trump announced in Truth Social.
Whitmer said Wednesday that he was grateful that the president had made an initial pause on 25% rates in Mexico and Canada.
“As I said before, I do not oppose tariffs directly. But they are a blunt tool when Michigan’s economy is at stake,” Whitmer added. “25% of tariffs would especially slow the construction, the shutter of small businesses, would lead to dismissals in the automotive industry and cost the families of Michigan $ 1,200 additional a year in the store and the bomb because companies will pass their highest costs to the consumer. It would be a disaster.”
Whitmer said he asked Michiganders how they feel about tariffs and received 3,000 responses written in 48 hours of people who are worried about the prices they upload.
“For them and for each Michigander, let’s continue talking with a voice so that smart commercial policies level in the playing field and ensure US works without increasing costs. In tariffs and every problem, Michiganders expect us to work together in Lansing, because this is how things are done.”

Trump promised Save the automotive industry During his inaugural speech, based on a key campaign promise made during his Michigan manifestations last year.
“With my actions today, we will finish the New Deal Verde, and revoke the mandate of electric vehicles, saving our automotive industry and maintaining my sacred promise with our large American automatic workers,” Trump said during his inaugural speech.
Trump presented his vision for the manufacture of US cars in the Detroit Economic Club in October 2024.
“My goal is to see the manufacture of US cars. Uu. Even more than at their best, and for Detroit and Michigan to be in the center of the action. During generations, this city and state were the world capital of automotive production,” Trump said.
It was criticized by Michigan’s politicians for calling Detroit an “developing area” during that speech.
“Our entire country will end up being Detroit if she is her president,” Trump said about former vice president Kamala Harris.
“He has no idea what hell was talking. And you know what I think? I should keep Detroit out of his mouth,” Whitmer said last year.
Trump argued during the same speech that his tariff agenda would end the foreign leaders who took advantage of The United States automotive industry.
“Detroit was decimated by a foreign army,” he said. “This was a foreign army that invaded us, but it was an army of entrepreneurs, very bright business people, which took out the sweets of our pockets, just like you take it out of a baby. That’s easy it was for them. Factories were in ruins.”

“When foreign leaders and CEOs call me to complain about our rates, my answer will be very simple: building in the United States, has no tariffs. Build here in Detroit, it has no tariff. Build in Dearborn or Lansing or Grand Rapids or Flint, it has no taxes. It has no taxes or rates or nothing,” Trump added.
