New York City Officials are facilitating illegal foreigners to acquire a residence identification card in the city, which facilitates them to obtain homes and free medical care, according to reports.
The members of the City Council approved a change supported by Mayor Eric Adams that opens 23 additional types of identifications that immigrants can provide to obtain a residence card in New York City.
New York Post reported that some of the identification examples that Immigrants can provide include an expired driver’s license; Documents of the Immigration and Customs Application of the United States (ICE) or the Federal Prison Office; and another 100 forms of identification to obtain an IDNYC card.
The administration of former mayor Bill de Blasio first presented the IDs of the city in 2015 to help migrants access free medical care, register at school, open accounts in banks and more.

The program is open to all New Yorkers who are 10 years old, regardless of their immigration state.
To date, almost 1.7 million people have acquired the identification card. Last year there were 132,054 ID delivered, while the previous year there were 127,859, according to the city.
Not everyone thinks it is a good idea to relieve the process to obtain an identification of the city. In fact, the representative Nicole Malliotakis, RN.y., told The Post that it was a “terrible idea.”
“Providing legitimate government identification to people in the country illegally then gives access to government buildings and services is just another incentive (to come here),” he told the publication. “The most disturbing thing is that there is no investigation, there is no process to ensure that the documents provided to demonstrate that identity are not false and, to start, destroy these documents that could be useful in an investigation.”

Even so, a city representative told the post that he vigorously examined the background of applicants for criminal issues.
In an opinion article published in Harlem World magazine, Adams highlighted the achievements of his administration with immigration.
“New York City is a city built by immigrants, and we are not only stronger due to our diversity, we are the best city in the world,” he said.
As of 2022, the city faced what was referred to as an “unprecedented influx of asylum seekers”, which its administration addressed from the front.
“Thanks to our efforts, more than 189,100 of the 232,600 of migrants, or 81 percent, who requested city services in the last three years have taken the next step in their trips to self -sufficiency,” Adams saidAdding that the support of their administration to asylum seekers while pursuing the American dream resulted in 84 % of adults who received or requested labor authorization.

Adams also stressed that the city bought more than 53,000 tickets to help those who seek asylum to reach their “preferred destinations”, reducing long -term costs to keep them in the city for taxpayers.
Adams announced last week that the migrant shelter at Hotel Roosevelt in Manhattan will close in the coming months.
The hotel, which became a migrant shelter with approximately 1,000 rooms, has prosecuted more than 173,000 migrants since May 2023. It was established as a migrant shelter in response to the wave of migrants that began arriving in the city in 2022 in search of asylum.
The Roosevelt hotel shelter, together with the humanitarian response and relief center located on the site, will now be closed in June, a source to the New York Post told.

“While we have not finished taking care of those who enter our care, today it marks another milestone in the demonstration of the immense progress that we have achieved by converting the corner into an unprecedented international humanitarian effort,” Adams said in a statement last week.
This week, he continued to address the efforts of the city.
The Department of Small Companies in New York City connected the migrant population with hundreds of job opportunities, he said, and other parts of their administration continued to seek ways to help newcomers, providing things from direct dissemination and resource fairs to English to the site as second -language courses in shelters.

“Our actions have shown an entire nation what can be achieved when we lead with compassion and ingenuity,” Adams said. “Due to the work we have done, we will leave this crisis stronger than ever. We are all New Yorkers together: anything that affects us one of us, affects us all. I have faith in our great city to continue being a lighthouse of hope, and a place where people in every corner of the world can build a new life.”
