Pope Francis shares a voice message from the hospital

Pope Francis has published an audio message thanking people around the world for their support after being admitted to the hospital on February 14.

It is the first time that the public is heard at 88 since he entered the hospital to be treated by bronchitis, before being diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.

The short message of two lines, recorded earlier that day from the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, was played during a night prayer service for the Pope in the Plaza de San Pedro in the Vatican.

Earlier this week, the Vatican said that the Pontiff was stable after suffering two episodes of respiratory failure and had been using “non -invasive mechanical ventilation”, but now it is back in a high flow oxygen mask.

The Pope has been forced to cancel several events since his hospitalization, more recently on Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the six -week period prior to Easter.
