Donald Tusk announces military training plans for all men in Poland

The work is underway so that all men in Poland undergo military training, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

In a speech to the Polish Parliament, Tusk said that the government was aimed at giving all the details in the coming months.

Efforts are being made to “prepare large -scale military training for each adult man in Poland,” he told the SEJM.

“We will try to have a model ready by the end of this year so that each adult man in Poland is trained in case of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate for possible threats.”

Tusk said that the Ukrainian army has 800,000 soldiers, while Russia has around 1.3 million and wants to increase the size of the Polish army, including reservists, 500,000 from around 200,000 now.

“We are talking about the need to have an army of half a million in Poland, including reservists,” he said.

“It seems that if we organize things wisely, and I am constantly talking with the Minister of Defense, we will have to use several courses of action. That means the reservists, but also an intensive training to make those who do not enter the army to completely and competent for a conflict during a conflict,” he added.

Tusk said women can also undergo military training, but “war, the domain of men remains to a greater extent.”

Poland is already planning to spend 4.7% of its economic production in defense this year, the highest proportion in the NATO alliance.

Tusk told Parliament that spending should increase to 5% of GDP.

Previously, the President doubt proposed amending the Constitution to make a defense expense at a level of 4% of the mandatory GDP

The prime minister also said that he supports the withdrawal of Poland of the Ottawa Convention that prohibits the use of antipersonal land mines, and also possibly from the Dublin Convention that prohibits the use of conglomerate ammunition.
