The government in recent weeks has doubled its response in the most violent regions of Ecuador, as part of President Daniel Noboa’s War against gangs that traffic drugs.
Tiguerones and other gangs are considered terrorist groups by the government.
Novoa, who seeks re -election in an April runoff vote, said that military and police officers will be able to respond to Guayaquil violence without fear of being punished for acting with a heavy hand.
