Several Republican senators have had problems with the American Bar Association (ABA) and are asking the president Donald Trump take drastic measures against the group. In a letter to the president of ABA, William Bay, the legislators said that the group, who plays a key role in judicial nominations, had become “biased and ideologically captured.” Now, those legislators want President Trump to “eliminate the ABA from the judicial nomination process completely.”
Senator Eric Schmitt, Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Marsha Blackburn, Senator Josh Hawley, Senator Bernie Moreno and Senator Mike Lee are also asking their fellow senators to “ignore ABA’s recommendations.”

In the explosive letter there are accusations, including that ABA has taken political positions against the Trump administration and that the group has been silent about its USAID funds. The federal aid group has been an objective of the Trump administration, something that ABA has criticized.
“ABA says: ‘Americans expect better’. But President Trump won electoral and popular votes.
Senator Schmitt tweeted the letter along with several criticisms of the recent actions and statements of the ABA. In particular, Schmitt won statements that ABA published on February 10 and March 3, which criticized the Trump administration.
“Three weeks have passed since the day of the inauguration. Most Americans recognize that newly chosen leaders bring changes. That is expected. But most Americans also expect the changes to take place according to the rule of law,” the ABA wrote in their February 10 statement. In addition, the February 10 declaration condemns the “dismantling of USAID”.

The senators Reference to this statement in his letter, saying that ABA made “inflammatory claims” against the Trump administration “without citing legal reasoning for those arguments.” One of these statements is that the “USAID dismantling” is illegal, but senators point out that ABA does not explain why these actions are not allowed under the law.
“It is questionable if ABA is committed to defending freedom or its own sources of financing,” the senators wrote, referring to the defense of the USAID organization.

The legislators also criticized the March 3 declaration of ABA in which the group hits the supposed “efforts to undermine the courts.” In their letter, legislators point out that the Association did not issue any statement against former President Joe Biden when he challenged the Supreme Court about the forgiveness of student loans.
In their letter, senators call ABA implementation of Diversity, equity and inclusion Policies, which the Trump administration has been working to get out of the government.
