Black Lives Matter Plaza Demolida in DC

Construction workers began to dismantle the Plaza de Black Lives Matter near the White House on Monday after the threats of Republicans to reduce transport funds if the square did not be called.

“You can dig up the concrete but you cannot erase the story,” said DC resident, Dianne Bradley.

Democratic mayor Muriel Bowser changed the name of the square in 2020 to Black Lives Matter Plaza, as a rebuke to President Trump, who had deployed thousands of federal troops to the city to counteract the people who protested the murder of George Floyd for a police officer.

The name change was criticized by the local chapter of the Black Lives Matter Global Network, which described it as “a performative distraction of real policy changes.”
