Singapore believes that Upskilling must happen for “each generation”, not only for young people.
Speaking in CNBC’s Converge in vivoMinister of Digital Development and Information of Singapore, Josephine Teo, told Arjun Kharpal of CNBC that, although Singapore has prior training for employment in schools and universities, the country also focuses on continuous education for those who are in the workforce.
“If we think that with what they left school they will last their entire working life, I think that is not realistic,” he said. “In their 40, 50 years active in the workforce, they could well have to pivot three, four, five, six times, maybe even more.”
He explained that Singapore will support workers over 40 who want additional qualifications.
“We think not only the youngest generation. We think of each generation,” Teo said.
The city-state has a program called “Medium skill career training assignment“That gives an allocation of up to $ 3,000 of Singapore ($ 2,250) per month for workers to take a free time of work to follow full -time courses.
“Then, if you have been for this program for two years, that is SG $ 72,000 to mark again, reorganize and be ready for the future. This is how we are seeing it.”
This scheme will also be available for workers who wish to perform part -time courses since the beginning of 2026.
