Haidilao pays diners after teenagers urinate in soup

The largest hotpot chain in China, Haidilao, has offered to compensate for more than 4,000 diners who visited one of their Shanghai branches, where two teenagers urinated in their Hotpot broth.

A video of the boys urinating on their broth boat while having dinner in a private room was widely shared online last month. It is not clear who could have filmed the incident.

Police said the 17 -year -old young people, who were drunk at that time, were arrested shortly after the incident.

There is no suggestion that someone consumed the affected broth. Haidilao has apologized to customers, saying that he has replaced all Hotpot equipment and meal utensils, as well as disinfecting other disinfl ones and utensils.

The incident occurred at the end of February, although the company’s management only learned days later, after the videos circulated on social networks.

Haidilao said that the service personnel at that time had not been able to stop adolescents.

He took another week to discover what departure was, said the company, since he has dozens of points of sale in the city.

The diners in Haidilao use their own personal equipment to cook their food, and the broths are not used again for other customers. However, it is not clear in this case if the hotpot in question was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before being used by the next client.

“We completely understand that the anguish caused to our clients for this incident cannot be fully compensated by any means, but we will do everything possible to assume responsibility,” the company said in a statement.

Haidilao said that customers who had dinner at the departure between February 24 and March 8 will receive a complete refund, followed by cash compensation that is 10 times the amount that were billed.

The company has expanded rapidly since it opened its first restaurant in Jianyang in the province of Sichuan. Now it operates more than 1,000 restaurants worldwide.

Haidilao is known for their customer service and their family atmosphere, where women can receive manicures and children receive dental thread while waiting for a table.
