Naples residents camp the outdoor after the night earthquake

Many people in the Italian city of Naples and its surroundings have spent the night in the streets and in their cars after an earthquake shook buildings and knocked down the rubble.

The Italian seismologists said that the tremor of magnitude 4.4 hit at 01:25 local time on Thursday (00:25 GMT) at a shallow depth of three kilometers (two miles). The United States geological service measured it as a 4.2 10 km deep tremor.

The power supply in Naples parts was interrupted.

In the nearby city of Pozzuoli, near the epicenter of the earthquake, an injured person was taken from the debris of a partially collapsed house.

Naples sits in the fields of Flegraean, a volcanic basin that makes the area in southern Italy prone to earthquakes.

Thursday’s earthquake was felt in several areas of the Campania region, Italian media reported.

The tremor was followed by at least two weakest replicas.

People have been seen leaving their homes and gathering in the streets of Naples, fearing more tremors.

Later, photos arose that shows a damaged house and a car with a crushed windshield.

A rescue coordination center has been established to assess the damage.

The schools in Pozzuoli and two nearby neighborhoods will be closed on Thursday so that stability controls of the building can be carried out, the newspaper Corriere Della Sera reported.
