Six months ago, Berlanga was the poster in a unified fight of world medium weight title that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately for Berlanga, he lost his impeccable record. Now he is ready to recover showing his talent on Saturday night.
Edgar Berlanga, Native of Brooklyn, 27, began his career in an impressive way, since he registered 16 consecutive victories in the first round of knockout. During the course of his next five fights, Berlanga seemed average when he collected five victories as a decision.
Berlanga would continue to make a drastic career movement while signing a multifugio agreement with Eddie Hearn and Mchroom Boxing. A year later, on the night of February 24, 2024, in his second fight with Matchroom, Berlanga finished his four -year drought when he faced the undefeated Irish boxer Padraig McCrrory.
With remaining 25 seconds to go in the sixth round, Berlanga landed a loop above the right that sent McCrory to the canvas. McCrory was trying to get up, but before he could fight to his feet, his cornerman decided to throw in the towel.
After his detention victory, Berlanga won the fight of his dreams, since he was ready to face the world champion of super medium of WBC, WBC, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Canelo dropped Berlanga in the 3rd, but Berlanga could recover and survive the rest of the round.
Berlanga maintained the competitive fight, but at the end of the 12 round contest, defending champion Canelo Álvarez won by unanimous decision. Now Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 17 kos) is ready to return to the mandatory retention of the challenger, since he is ready to face a hard-hearted opponent.
Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jonathan González-Ortiz is a pressure fighter who has a good placement of blows and is accustomed to overwhelming his opponents with his work rate. González-Ortiz, 35, had two fights in 2024, but before that, the last time he competed inside the ring was in 2014.
González-Ortiz’s ten-year dismissal and the low level of competition he faced are the two main reasons why some are skeptical with respect to this fight is competitive. However, Edgar Berlanga is not underestimating his opponent because he believes that on Saturday night he will be involved in a shooting.
“I am not overlooking this man, he comes to win,” Berlanga said. “He is Puerto Rican, and has that Puerto Rican blood in him. So, I know it comes to fight. I know he is not going to run around the ring trying to survive. It will come out and try to try a point. “
Austin “Ammo” Williams vs Patrice Volny is the headline, but the co-prince is a very intriguing confrontation. When leaving the great money fight with Canelo, Berlanga intervened for his next fight with 1.6 pounds on the super medium weight limit of 168.
That said, the lack of focus and discipline by Berlanga will open the doors of the opportunity for a malaise from González-Ortiz, or Berlanga show that it is at a different level and will collect a routine victory?
