EXCLUSIVE: Former Chief of General Services Administration (GSA) Emily Murphy, who served everyone President Donald TrumpThe first mandate, said Fox News Digital that the GSA “rights to its portfolio” selling or leaving unused government buildings, saving money to help the government work more efficiently.
“I think there is an incredible opportunity at this time for GSA to save substantial amounts of money by diminating his wallet,” Murphy told Fox News Digital about Elon Musk’s about Elon Musk’s Government Efficiency Department (Dux) working with GSA to identify “vacancious or underutilized federal spaces” as part of the Trump administration plan to reduce wastewater.
“At this time, Gsa is losing money,” Murphy said. “The federal buildings they possess have more than $ 370 billion in deferred maintenance. That is a responsibility that is growing, growing and growing because the buildings have not been maintained. Therefore, getting rid of the property space that has not been maintained and that is not occupied, first of all, it removes it from the Government’s books, it gets rid of that responsibility. But it does not create opportunities in the communities.
Murphy said those empty buildings are often in the ideal center, “heavy use areas” that can be a real asset to build the community and return funds to the Treasury department.

“GSA has to rights to his lease. Otherwise, he will pay the rental of buildings that he is not occupying, and does not have the necessary financing to do so,” Murphy said.
GSA cost reduction efforts have already resulted in 794 lease terminations with a total of more than $ 500 million lease obligations that are canceled, said a source familiar with the actions of the GSA to Fox News Digital.

Murphy said finishing leases and the sale of unused office space will benefit the double government. First, you can underpin money to finance government agencies in the short term. Secondly, it will reduce long -term financial obligations.
“No taxpayer should want the government to pay for the space that does not use,” Murphy said. “There are billions of dollars a year (which) come out in rental and real estate payments of the federal government. This is a substantial amount of money, and it is a real opportunity for GSA to do a great job for the US people and reduce the long -term financial obligations of the government and, frankly, release money for short -term agencies.”

Murphy told Fox that GSA exists to “reduce waste” and during his term, they managed to return around $ 21.6 billion in savings. She hugged Doge’s efforts to reduce unnecessary spending and increasing government efficiency, telling Fox News Digital those problems should have bipartisan support.
“Prioritizing efficiency and minimizing waste in our government should really be a bipartisan issue. Government hiring, government’s real estate do not have a republican side or a democratic side of the currency,” Murphy said. “What Doge is doing at this time is simply moving forward and trying to ensure that taxpayers can have the confidence that every dollar spent is really the best for their interest.
Murphy explained that GSA was created to administer the portfolio portfolio of the federal government and welcomed the renewed approach to efficiency.

“GSA is essentially the government management arm. It manages real estate, the acquisition, many of the shared services that the government has, vehicles in the government fleet. He directs many of the Back Office’s functions of the Government. It was created about 75 years ago to specifically take that challenge, so the agencies have not done the same repetitive tasks again and again,” Murphy said.
Stephen Ehikian swore as an interim administrator and attached administrator of the GSA on the day of the inauguration.
“According to Trump-Vance administration, I will return the GSA to its central purpose of making government work smarter and more fast,” Ehikian said. “In the future, GSA will focus on the laser on promoting an efficient government and allowing our sister agencies to provide a better service to taxpayers to lower costs.”
GSA has produced the greatest amount of savings among federal agencies, according to the official Doge website. A web page entitled “List of non -basic properties (soon)” on the GSA website describes the continuous effort of the agency to save in government buildings.

“We are identifying buildings and facilities that are not central to government operations, or non -basic properties, for elimination. The sale ensures that taxpayers’ dollars are no longer spent in federal spaces vacant or underutilized. The elimination of these assets helps eliminate expensive maintenance and allows us to reinvest on high quality work environments that the missions of the support agency,” he says on the GSA website.
Associated Press reported That dozens of federal leases of offices and buildings will end before June 20, and hundreds are expected more in the coming months. AP also reported last week that GSA published a list of more than 440 federal properties that the Government planned to download. Then, the list was reviewed to include only 320 buildings before the website was ultimately updated to its current language “soon.”
The musk has lamented About office buildings not used in their personal account X and the official Doge account.
“Still * Road * Too many leases in unused buildings,” Musk published on February 25.
“Agreed! Today, lease cancellations in vacant/underutilized buildings are profitable from ~ 257 to ~ 440, with an annual savings of rentals that increase from ~ $ 100m to ~ $ 171 million. There is still a lot of office space available for the current workforce,” Doge replied to Musk the next day.
“Today, the federal government exceeded $ 100 million in annual rental savings through cancellations of more than 250 vacancies/underutilized leases by a total of 3m+ square feet. With ~ 7,250 current leases, there is a lot of office space available for the current workforce,” Doge announced in a position on February 25.
