A Peruvian fisherman who was found alive after spending 95 days drifting in the Pacific Ocean He said he ate cockroaches, birds and sea turtles to survive.
Maximo Napa was strongly dehydrated and in critical condition when it was discovered by an Ecuadorian fishing patrol about 680 miles from the coast of Peru last Wednesday, according to Reuters. Originally departed from Marcona, a city on the southern coast of Peru, for a Fishing trip December 7.
“I didn’t want to die,” Napa told Reuters. “I ate cockroaches, birds, the last thing I ate were the turtles.”
“I thought about my mother every day,” he added. “I am grateful to God for giving me a second chance.”

Initially, NAPA packed enough food to spend two weeks at sea, but 10 days later, it was thrown by the stormy climate and ended up drifting in the Pacific, Reuters reported.
The news agency added that Napa drank rainwater that collected in its boat, but finally ran out of food sources and spent the last 15 days without eating anything.

According to reports, Napa maintained their hopes when thinking about his family and children’s granddaughter.
“I told the Lord, if he is alive or dead, just bring it back to me, even if it’s just to see it,” said his mother Elena Castro to TV Peru, according to Reuters.
“But my daughters never lost the faith. They kept telling me: Mom, he will return, he will return,” he added.
