The president of the United States, Donald Trump, warned Iran that he will face “serious” consequences if Yemen’s hutis continue to attack international shipping lanes.
He said that the Iranian leadership from now on would be seen as if he had pressed the trixture of “each shot fired by the hutis”, which for a long time have been backed by Tehran.
Trump’s threat occurred after the Hutíes attacked an American aircraft in the Red Sea after US attacks on Yemen that his Ministry of Health said he had killed at least 53 people.
The Pentagon said that he had launched new attacks against 30 goals in Yemen during the attacks that began on Saturday, the largest American military operation in the Middle East since Trump returned to the White House.
Trump posted on his Truth social platform on Monday: “All those fired by the hutis will be considered from this moment, as a shot triggered from the weapons and leadership of Iran.
“And Iran will be responsible and will suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be serious!”
The president of the United States accused Tehran of supplying the funds, weapons and intelligence, which Tehran denies.
In a letter on Monday to the UN Security Council, Iran’s UN envoy denied that it violated a UN embargo with weapons in Yemen, and said it was not involved in any destabilizing activity in the region.
Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani accused the United States of “accusations without foundation” against Iran, the Reuters news agency reported.
On Monday, Pentagon officials said US attacks. In Yemen they went to a broader range of objectives than authorized strikes under former President Joe Biden.
Lieutenant General Alex Grynkewich said that manufacturers of unmanned aircrafts were among those attacked.
He added that there were no “credible indications of any civil victim.”
Washington has said that some key numbers of Houthi were among the dead, but the group has not confirmed this.
“This is not an endless offensive,” said Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, adding that the United States was not looking for a regime change, and would continue to use an overwhelming force until its objectives are met.
“This campaign will be relentless to degrade its capacity and open shipping lanes in the region and defend our homeland,” he added.
On Sunday morning, the hutis launched drones and missiles aimed at the USS Harry S Truman aircraft in the Red Sea.
The American combat plane knocked down about 11 of the drones, an American official told the US BBC CBS partner.
The Houthis also launched a ballistic missile that crashed into the water, below the USS Harry S Truman, the official added.
The Hutis said that at least five children were among 53 people killed in the US air attacks. In the areas of Yemen al Jaouf and Hudaydah, victims that the BBC has not verified independently.
The United States also launched air attacks against the group on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Hutis said they would continue to attack the sending of the Red Sea until Israel raised their gaza blockade.
The hutis have often claimed falsely, that they only point to ships linked to Israel, the United States or the United Kingdom.
Since November 2023, the hutis have pointed dozens of merchant boats with missiles, drones and small boat attacks in the Red Sea and Aden’s Gulf.
They have sunk two vessels, confiscated a third and killed four crew members.
The rebel group controls Sanaa and northwest Yemen, but is not the internationally recognized government of the country.
