General Motors and Nvidia I have agreed to a strategic collaboration that includes the car manufacturer using several artificial intelligence products and services of the technological giant for its next generation vehicles, advanced assistance systems for drivers and factories.

Companies announced on Tuesday that new initiatives include the construction of custom artificial intelligence systems that use NVIDIA computing platforms, including “Omniverse With Cosmos”, to optimize the planning and robotics of GM factories.

Detroit’s automation manufacturer also said he will use “NVIDIA DRIVE AGX“For” Hardware in the vehicle for future advanced controllers’ assistance systems and improved security driving experiences. “

GM declined to reveal a cost for new tools with NVIDIA. The technology company has been trying to diversify its automotive business, which has notably included substantial work in data centers and GPU.

“The era of physical AI is here, and together with GM, we are transforming transport, from vehicles to the factories where they are made,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, in a statement. “We are delighted to associate with GM to build ia systems adapted to their vision, crafts and knowledge.”

GM has been using NVIDIA graphics processing units, or GPU, to train AI models in several areas of their business, including simulation and validation. The new business expands to hardware in the vehicle, design and operations of the automotive plant, companies said.

The automobile manufacturer had also been testing Nvidia’s omniverse since at least 2022. Some of the GM tests were in the design of a “digital twin” or replica of its new design center and processes to help the development of virtual vehicles. He also acted as a unique digital environment for employees to work and collaborate, according to a Video last year With GM for the NVIDIA GTC developer conference in 2023.

Nvidia anticipated that he would reach an agreement with GM at half a year of the year for Omniverse, according to an internal email of the company seen by CNBC. At that time, two sources with GM pointed out that the car manufacturer was not sure that the NVIDIA software and the GPUs were worth high cost compared to other companies.

It was not immediately clear what sealed the treatment for GM. But since then, both companies have experienced an increase China competition and uncertain regulatory changes such as tariffs. GM shares are out of approximately 8% during 2025, while Nvidia is out of approximately 12% this year.

“The AI not only optimizes manufacturing processes and accelerates virtual tests, but also helps us build smarter vehicles while training our workforce to concentrate on crafts,” CEO of GM, GM. Mary Barra He said at the launch of Nvidia. “By merging technology with human ingenuity, we unlock new levels of innovation in the manufacture of vehicles and beyond.”

Companies announced the new initiatives in relation to Nvidia’s GTC AI Conference This week in California.

Nvidia describes Omniverse as a platform to “develop and implement physical digitalization applications based on physicists.” Essentially it is connecting a physical environment with a digital world or software to optimize processes using a “digital twin” of a physical environment, such as a GM or plant design installation.

Nvidia Omniverse users have included BMW, Amazon Robotics and Samsung, Rev lebradianVice President of Omniverse and Nvidia Simulation Technology, said during an informative media session a year ago. He said the company was licensed by Omniverse for $ 4,500 per GPU, per year.

It is not clear how many GPU GM will need. But given the amount of robotics, sensors and other systems necessary to operate a modern assembly plant, it would probably be enough.

More than 20 automobile manufacturers have used the “System in a Chip” hardware of NVIDIA in the central computer units of their smart vehicles, including Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Audi, Volkswagen and Byd, according to a capital investigation note of the Jeffries industry in November 2023.

In recent years, Nvidia has seen a very high demand for its GPU, which are used for everything, from Bitcoin mining to inference and training of AI.
