George Kambosos Jr. calls Teofimo López a ‘fool’, demands a neutral grass rematch and questions López’s desire to solve the score

George Kambosos Jr. says he is open to fighting a rematch against Teofimo López on the neutral grass, but he will not do so in his hometown in New York. Kambosos (21-3, 10 kos) does not believe that Teofimo wants a rematch after the way he hit him in a victory of divided decision of 12 rounds in 2021.

Wyllie threat

The former unified lightweight champion Kambosos Jr. will lead this Saturday in Dazn against the replacement opponent Jake Whyllie (16-1, 15 kos) in a 12-round contest at Quech Bank Arena, Sydney’s Olympic Park in Sydney, Australia. George chose Whyllie, and could be a tougher fight than many expect. Wyllie is 24 years old, and has young people and power on her side.

For a rematch to make sense, Teofimo (21-1, 13 kos) must be victorious against Arnold B Barboza Jr. on May 2 and then defeat the Welter Champion of the IBF of the IBF Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in October. If he loses both fights, it would be useless for Kambero to face it again.

Kambosos is trying to change his career in his fight on Saturday. He was knocked out in the 11th round by Vasily Lomachenko last May in Perth, Australia, and has been inactive since then. That was a punishing fight for Kambosos. The free year will have not done anything good.

Neutral turf?

“I really want to see what happens in that fight. It is better that it does not underestimate Barboza because it definitely comes to win that fight,” said George Kambosos Jr. Fight Hub TV About Teofimo López’s match against Arnold Barboza Jr. on May 2.

“Arnold was linked and said: ‘Eventually we should make a great fight.’ So, yes, we will see what happens on the road, but I am definitely supporting Lopez because he is a fool.

“We’ll see what happens to that. I immediately offered it to the ring,” Kambosos said about him offering a rematch to Teofimo after beating him in 2021. “He was just looking at me like a stunned bird, obviously shocked and mistreated after hitting him. He doesn’t want to do it. There is still a lot of flesh. We have to settle somewhere.”

If a rematch occurs, it will have to occur in 2026 because Teofimo has two fights ahead in Riad’s season cards. The best thing that Kambosos can do is continue winning and wearing well, and there is an excellent possibility that Teofimo gives him his attention next year.
