Cate Blanchett It is being real about why awards programs should no longer be televised.
During a recent appearance in the “Bodybuilders with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang“ The podcast, the 55 -year -old actress, discussed what it was like to move around the world as a public person, pointing out that with the invention of smartphones, there are “so few spaces that you can go now, where you are private” without worrying if someone is recording.
“That is what I loved from the late 80s (went) to go to all the dance parties in Sydney for Mardi Gras. People were there,” he explained. “They were so present, you know, they were collectively together, having a good time. It was not aggressive. No one was being registered. Nobody cared what nobody did.”

The hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers agreed with Blanchett, with Yang mentioning the current trend in Tiktok, where lip readers will publish videos that claim to know what celebrities are said to each other in the awards.
Blanchett and the hosts agreed that the new trend feels “treacherous”, noting that certain celebrities have begun to cover their mouths when they speak on the carpet to avoid being the issue of one of those videos.
“I mean, I say, I know it’s blasphemy, he returns to the day he was not televised,” Blanchett said. “It brings that back and only has a great party where people can let it go. I mean that the industry is so scattered and at such a point … what I think could potentially be exciting or really could be depressing, but it is at a pivot point, so we need to gather and celebrate what we do, without having to have any public type.”
“I mean, fashion is great, and all that. We will discover in the end who won or who did not win. But it would be so pleasant that that happened behind closed doors. (It would be) absolutely a very different night.”
The first Academy Awards It took place in May 1929, but was not televised until ceremony 25 in 1953. Since then, the public worldwide has tuned to see which of their favorite stars the greatest prizes of the night is taken home.

Blanchett has won two Oscar, one for its secondary role in “The Aviator” in 2005, playing Katharine Hepburn, and another for its main role in “Blue Jasmine” in 2014. He has also received six additional nominations both in the support and support categories.

“I mean, fashion is great, and all those things. In the end we will discover who won or who did not win,” he added. “But it would be so good that that happened behind closed doors. (It would be) absolutely a very different night.”
Later, the actress clarified that she is still about to have prize shows, noting that “it is so good that people’s work is celebrated and in that way”, but that the current system can often lead people to “get sick” of some of the films nominated that year.
“This is the thing, all these films are incredible, and many incredible films and performances and all craft and cinematography awards,” he explained. “You want to celebrate them, but you can get tired of those films because they are all reduced, as they should. I don’t want to get tired of any of those films because they are bright.”

This is not the first time that Blanchett has talked about his problems with awards shows. When she won the Critics choice award ‘ For the best actress in a drama for her main role in “Tar” in 2023, he used part of his acceptance speech to call the system a “patriarchal pyramid where someone stands” in front of a room full of their peers.

He then referred to the whole matter as “a television horsepower” career, and suggested that they recognize that “there are a series of female actions that are in concert and in dialogue between them.”
